Update from Kenya: International Day to End Obstetric Fistula

Marking the 4th United Nations’ International Day to End Obstetric Fistula, our Action on Fistula program partners in Kenya held several events to raise awareness about obstetric fistula. Here is a photo tour:

Partner: Gynocare Fistula Center
Eldoret, Kenya

In Eldoret, the inaugural Run to End Obstetric Fistula was hosted by our partner facility, Gynocare and featured in KTN News:

Partner: WADADIA

Kakamega County, Kenya
In western Kenya, our partners WADADIA organized a processional of staff and fistula survivors, held a mini road show featuring entertainment, music and testimonials from fistula survivors, and held a “Let’s Kick Fistula Out of Africa” football match to raise awareness about fistula and how women can get treated.

 

Partner: Disciples of Mercy
Kehancha, in Kuria Sub-county, Migori County, Kenya

Our outreach partners, Disciples of Mercy, conducted fistula outreach today via a procession, a skit performed for the community about fistula and the importance of having a skilled attendant available during childbirth. They also set up a site where women could be screened for treatment, and shared testimony from a fistula survivor.

Partner: Daraja Mbili Vision Volunteers
Kisii County, Kenya
In Kisii County, our outreach partners Daraja Mbili Vision Volunteers educated communities and offered fistula screening and referral by holding a live event and by answering questions via radio broadcast. Speeches and fistula testimonies were given, and educational materials about how to identify fistula were distributed.
