Sodreine is from Iabomora Village, about 56km from Vangaindrano. She gave birth to her first child at the age of 17, but her labor did not progress as planned. As a result, she developed obstetric fistula.
Not long after her fistula developed, her husband left. He told her he could not stand the smell from her incontinence. Heartbroken, she returned home to live with her family.
Then one day she heard an advertisement on the radio. The SALFA hospital in Vangaindrano was offering free treatment for women suffering from obstetric fistula, like her. Not long after hearing that ad, she met another woman in town who had been living with fistula. She decided to seek help, and encouraged the other woman to do the same.
Today, Sodreine is dry. Her surgery was successful and has made a big difference in her life. She feels very happy now, and she is grateful that her injury is gone so she can earn a living.
