About the Artist – Georgina Goodwin
Georgina Goodwin is a freelance photographer born and raised in Kenya. Represented by International Photographers’ Collective “MetaphorImages” with 10 years experience she specialises in documenting Africa’s depths, her people and environment. Through her work Georgina has met and photographed Nelson Mandela, worked with South African singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Japanese football star Hidetoshi Nakata. Her current personal projects include documenting the rise of cancer in Africa, climate change, anti-poaching, and rape and religion in the Nairobi slums, which she passionately carries out alongside her commissioned assignments.
Working with the Canon digital system Georgina’s assignments have involved conflict documentary for news-wire agencies, humanitarian and NGO event and project coverage, public health awareness and product promotion, and commercial venues and interiors. Her many publications include local and international newspapers, physical and online magazines, and public exhibitions. Her work has been published by the New York Times, Newsweek, Elle Magazine US, Google, Financial Times, BBC, CNN, AFP, Reuters, The Telegraph, The Guardian, World Bank, UNEP and IFAD, UNICEF, McClatchy Newspapers New York, Africa Geographic, amongst many others. Her work has been featured in Times Square in New York City, the Louvre Museum in Paris, and in a number of public exhibitions most recently in the exhibition “Primitive No More: Africa Through the Eyes of Africans” at the San Francisco Public Library.
Georgina’s work documenting Cancer in Africa was nominated for the prestigious Prix Pictet 2015 Award for Sustainability. She was selected for the Top 30 2014 Finalist Freedom House’s Images of Repression & Freedom Photo Auction Contest, awarded Kenyan News Photographer of the Year for her coverage of the Westgate Mall attack in Nairobi in September 2013, selected as a featured photographer in the 2013 Exposure Awards, See.Me Community New York Exhibition, and winner at the 2012 Forum for Research & Development Photography in South Africa.
Georgina has an avid following on social media sites Instagram, Twitter and Facebook where she shares her work. Georgina teaches photography in workshops, privately and to companies, and has an extensive archive of commissioned and personal images of African wildlife, travel, landscapes and people. Her stock images are represented by Africa Scrapbooks stock agency and in galleries in London and Nairobi. She is recognized for her unique access to local subjects, being easy to work with, and maintaining international ethics and photo-journalistic standards.
