“Exceptional” 11 years in a row: For more than a decade, Fistula Foundation has earned Charity Navigator’s highest rating as an efficient, ethical, and open charity.
For the 11th consecutive year, Fistula Foundation has earned a four-star rating—the highest awarded—from Charity Navigator, the nation’s premier independent charity evaluator. This rating places Fistula Foundation in the top 1 percent of charities they assess.
In a letter to Fistula Foundation, Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator, wrote:
“Attaining a four-star rating verifies that Fistula Foundation exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in your area of work. Only 1 percent of the charities we evaluate have received at least 11 consecutive four-star evaluations, indicating that Fistula Foundation outperforms most other charities in America. This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets Fistula Foundation apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness.”
Fistula Foundation CEO Kate Grant said: “This is a huge deal for Fistula Foundation because it represents more than a decade of effort among our staff, our Board, and myself to be accountable, transparent, and to behave in the most fiscally responsible manner possible. We work very hard at this, every single day, because the funds we raise are critical to the health and well-being of women who are suffering and in need of the surgeries we provide.”
Charity Navigator is a nonprofit organization that works to guide intelligent giving. Founded in 2001, they assess more than 8,000 U.S.-based charities each year—10 times more charities than their nearest competitor—on the basis of financial health, transparency, and accountability. By using an objective, numbers-based rating system, Charity Navigator provides donors with information on how efficiently they believe a charity will use their support today, how well it has sustained its programs and services over time, and its commitment to good governance and openness with information. They currently attract more visitors to their website than all other charity rating groups combined, making their organization the leading charity evaluator in America.
