Donor Profile is one of the regular features in Fistula Foundation publications (see also One Woman's Story). Every month on our website, and in each newsletter, we feature a donor or group of donors who have found creative ways to help the women of Fistula Hospital make the journey from despair to dignity.

The Teen Angels

We are members of the "Teen Angel" Circle of the United Methodist Women. Our group is made up of eight girls, ages 11 to 15 from Levy United Methodist Church, North Little Rock, Arkansas.

One of the purposes of our group is to help others through mission work, especially women and children in need. We chose this project after learning about this issue from the Oprah Winfrey Show. Our goal was to raise $900 – enough money for two women's surgeries. With the help and support of our church, families and friends, we were able to exceed our goal!

During a 12-hour "Rock-A-Thon" at our church, we raised $1,159.62 for the Fistula Foundation for use for Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia.

We are proud to give up our time to help other girls in need – girls we will never know, but girls like us, just living in a very different culture. It is good to share God's blessings with other teens around the world.

We had a lot of fun during the Rock-A-Thon. We even had Ms. Dorothy Atkins join us to rock for six hours, and Ms. Dorothy is 75+ years old. We decided that the next time that we have a Rock-A-Thon, we will get the mothers in the church to bring their babies.
