"Walk to Beautiful" Screening Party in Your Home

Enjoy being a host/hostess? Invite friends and family over to your home to watch the award winning film "A Walk to Beautiful". The film won the coveted "Best Documentary" award from the International Documentary Association and movingly documents the journey of five Ethiopian women who are treated at the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital. There is a 54 minute version, which has run on public television, or an 85 minute feature length version. To learn more about the film, view the trailer, or order the film, please click here.

We have information sheets about obstetric fistula and the Foundation that we can send you, along with donation envelopes and flyers to give to your friends.

Walk to Beautiful Community Screening:

The DVD can also be used for non-commercial screenings at schools, church, clubs, or associations to help educate and inspire potential supporters and generate larger audiences. The Foundation can purchase the DVD for your use for a community screening. For more information contact us at 408 249-9596 or email us at info@fistulafoundation.org. As with the home screenings we would be happy to send you information to distribute at the screening and give you tips for how you might organize one.

Group Sponsorship

Join forces with other members of your book club, women's group, investment club, etc. to sponsor the surgery of one woman (or two or three...).

Letter Circle

Personal letters are an excellent way to encourage others to share your passion for a cause. Write a note to friends and family about how you were personally inspired to help women with fistula and email it (or post it) along with our flyer or a link to the website. Mention a few of the details from our FAQ About Fistula and set a specific fundraising goal (e.g. "Let’s join forces to help our sisters! If everyone who receives this email pledges $15, we can raise $450 to fund the surgery and hospital stay of one woman with fistula.").

Yard Sale

A yard sale is a great way to raise money while getting together with friends and neighbors. Sell your collective clutter and display a large poster indicating that all proceeds will be donated to treating and preventing fistula. Have flyers and donation envelopes on hand. If you really want to be fancy, set up a TV to play the 15-minute DVD "From Despair to Dignity" repeatedly throughout the day.

An Evening Out

Mix good works and good fun. Connect with a local restaurant or neighborhood hangout and encourage them to donate a portion of that evening's proceeds to the cause. Invite your friends and family to join you and you will help generate business for the restaurant while raising funds to restore health and dignity to women suffering from fistula.

Holiday Gift Wrapping

Check with local merchants who may agree to let you sponsor a gift-wrapping station during busy shopping seasons, with the donations of shoppers going to benefit the work of the Fistula Foundation.
