The Fistula Foundation, previously American Friends Foundation for Childbirth Injuries, was incorporated in California on June 1, 2000 to support the repair and prevention of obstetric fistula by funding the general operations, programs, and capital projects of Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia.

To the extent that Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital does not require money on a current basis, the Fistula Foundation, in consultation with Fistula Hospital and its trustees, will hold funds in reserve to assure the long-term sustainability of Fistula Hospital and its programs. At the discretion of the Fistula Foundation's board of directors, the foundation may keep these funds in unrestricted reserves or may, from time to time, transfer funds into a more formal general endowment. The spending rate, investment policy and access to principal of this endowment fund shall be determined by the foundation's board of directors.
